Commercial Automobile Intra-State Program
Commercial Automobile Liability and/or Physical Damage in the state of California

Target Classes:
Intra-state business auto, motor carrier trucking, radius of 500 miles or less within California with newer vehicles and experienced drivers that are loss free in these classes:

  • Artisans/Construction Workers
  • Business Auto
  • Container Haulers
  • General Freight Haulers
  • Household Goods Movers
  • Produce Haulers

Appointed General Agents only (No retail agents)

Topa application required. Current MVRs, vehicle registrations and loss runs must be submitted.


  • BIPD for scheduled autos only - $100,000, $300,000, $500,000, $600,000, $750,000 or $1,000,000 CSL
  • Med Pay - $1,000, $2,000 or $5,000
  • UMBI - $100,000 per occurrence
  • UMPD - $3,500
  • Physical Damage (*ACV) - Specified perils, Comprehensive & Collision coverages
  • Cargo - up to $100,000 (some cargo commodity exclusions apply)
  • On-Hook Towing - $25,000, $50,000 or $100,000
  • Towing & Storage - $5,000 or $10,000
  • Non-owned auto and hired auto upon approval only, no sub haul over 25% of gross revenue

*ACV=Actual Cash Value

Minimum Premium
$500 for Cargo + $500 for all other coverages combined

Ineligible Risks

  • Vehicles operating outside a 500-mile radius from place of principal garaging address
    • If the vehicle remains inside the state of California, yet exceeds the 500-mile radius, it is acceptable
  • Sand/Gravel haulers and towing risks
  • Vehicles garaged and/or registered outside the state of California
  • Vehicles leased or rented to the insured for a term less than 12 months
  • Vehicles used as a living or work facility (i.e. motor home, mobile home or mobile office)
  • Any risk that does not meet the DRIVER/MVR standards (see DRIVERS section, 13 in our Commercial Auto Underwriting Guidelines)
  • Vehicles used in mining, tunneling, construction of bridges and/or dams, and oil and gas drilling
  • Vehicles that haul hazardous, flammable or explosive substances
  • Vehicles that haul bulk liquids, pipes/beams, hay/alfalfa, or cotton within 72 hours of ginning
  • Vehicles that require a pilot vehicle, pull triple trailers or have unbaffled/glass-lined tank trucks over 1400-gallon capacity
  • Vehicles used as emergency, repossession, refuse, livery, bobtails, cement mixing, delivery/courier or security guard vehicles
  • Kit cars, salvaged/grey market vehicles or off-road vehicles
  • Vehicles that have attachments (e.g. cranes) or alterations
  • Vehicles that are owned by the insured and rented or leased to others
  • If the risk is required to comply with the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 (due to hazardous material hauling)
